Hurricane Helene:

On September 27, 2024, Hurricane Helene slammed into the Black Mountains of Yancey County, NC where the Pensacola Township is located. With the ground already saturated from two days of heavy rains, the 100 mph winds and two to three feet of additional rain unleashed flooding and landslides that destroyed or damaged homes, infrastructure, and took several lives. PLA has been helping our neighbors by applying for grants, coordinating with other non-profit organizations, and lending a hand to help our neighbors get back into safe homes with safe water.
